AVERAGE LIST PRICE: 4 BEDROOM $169,000 - 3 BEDROOM $152,900
Suburban, bedroom community. Solidly middle class. Inland town surrounded by hills.
Subdivisions rise with the gentle slopes. San Diego River flows through middle. Affordable
in price in part because it is about 18 miles from downtown San Diego. Country feeling,
well kept, lawns mowed, shrubs trimmed, etc.
Santee is divided east-west by Mission Gorge Road. Most of the subdivision homes were
built north of this road. Over half of Santee was built between 1960 and 1980 and the
styles from that era dominate.
One and two story homes, two car garages. On some streets the utility lines have been
placed underground. Houses presentable but in the summer many lawns brown out. In Santee
the open country is just a stone's throw away, and stones - boulders to be precise - are
strewn over the empty hills. The town has more of a desert feel than ocean but still gets
some ocean breezes, but summers do get warm. Other housing choices, namely the apartments
and mobile homes, are also available. Many homes have been built outside city limits to
the east - neighborhoods called Eucalyptus Hills, Lakeside, Winter Gardens, Moreno. A mix
of tract and country, some have horse facilities.
Golf course on west end of Santee, part of the Carlton Oaks subdivision. Santee in this
section also has a series of artificial lakes. The seven lakes are stocked with catfish,
bluegill, and bass, and are bordered by parks, camp sites and trails. Boating, fishing,
camping, golf, softball, baseball, soccer, all the usual sports, and Boys and Girls clubs.
Mission Trails Regional Park close by.
The commute to San Diego aided by Highway 52 that was extended to Santee. The San Diego
trolley also extended service to Santee from downtown.
Most older children attend West Hills High, a few Santana High. Grossmont College
offers many classes and activities to the public. |
