AVERAGE LIST PRICE: 4 BEDROOM $319,000 - 3 BEDROOM $229,900
Middle class upscale area. Some homes overlook Lake Hodges. Located just west of Poway
(in its northern sector).
"RB" boasts a $1.4 million recreation center-gym and a new award-winning
library. A nice comment on civic energy. Six community centers (four of them with youth
activities) and the usual sports: soccer, baseball, football, softball, tennis, and
swimming.
Built over hills and valleys, it is a mix of homes, duplexes, condos, apartments, and
senior housing. A country feeling is found throughout Rancho Bernardo. R.B. was one of the
first planned communities. It has covenants and restrictions on homeowners, rules which
keep the neighborhoods well maintained. In some parts of Rancho Bernardo, homeowner
associations take care of front lawns. Community centers anchor each
"neighborhood." The children all attend the Poway Unified School District.
These statistics say a middle class plus area, not wealthy but well-to-do, educated,
peaceful, somewhat interested in the arts, golfers. In appearance, the community reflects
these stats. The homes are built along tract designs, and the lawns are well-maintained,
the streets clean, the utilities underground. Many trees have matured into leafy shaders.
Some roofs have wood shingles but newer homes favor tile. Garages run to two and three
cars. The apartment complexes often come with pools. Restaurants, stores, supermarkets are
all in small shopping centers. Additional shopping is found to the north in a large
regional mall, North County Fair, in Escondido and to the south in the newer development
of Carmel Mountain Ranch.
Located 23 miles to downtown San Diego, Rancho Bernardo covers 5,800 acres.
One section is set aside for light industry, offices and businesses. More development
is coming around Lake Hodges and to west of RB.
