Located just south of downtown San Diego. Older city but it has built steadily over the last 50 years. Entry-level housing, especially near downtown. South and east have newer, bigger homes. A squarish town, going about 40 blocks east-west and about 33 blocks north-south.

National City is what some people call a "transition" town. Since home prices and rents are lower than in other communities, it is going to attract newcomers, immigrants, people starting out, and people of modest means. Palms and other trees grace the streets. The city also has some Victorians.

Five miles from downtown San Diego, two freeways, buses and trolleys service the area. There are shops galore, fishing pier, boat launch, several large parks, city-owned golf course, library and the usual activities for children.

About 20 parks, two swim centers, miles of beaches - surfing - sport fishing, beach volleyball, two golf courses, seniors center, several community-recreation centers. The usual kiddies activities:baseball, basketball, gymnastics, tennis, children and adult dance classes.
