AVERAGE LIST PRICE: 4 BEDROOM $952,700 - 3 BEDROOM $650,OOO
Most prestigious neighborhood in San Diego County and among the rich and famed around
the world. Since it has many apartments, La Jolla is probably not the richest
neighborhood. However, in views, design and money some of the streets in La Jolla will
rival the best in the nation. Also called the "Jewel by the Sea."
Located on the Pacific, many of the homes command great views. La Jolla is home to the
University of California, San Diego, Scripps Institute of Oceanography, Salk Institute and
other research institutes. So distinct is La Jolla, so wide is its fame that it is
frequently spoken of as a city. La Jolla does have an informal "town" council
but it is a neighborhood of the City of San Diego.
La Jolla rises gradually from Turquoise Street on the south and abruptly from the
Pacific on the west ... hence the views. Some homes, phenomenal creations, sit on the
bluffs high over the Pacific. Many other homes are modest affairs, three-bedroom, two
bath, that sort of thing, well maintained, no view. You are paying for the location and
the ambiance. About one in five residential units were built before 1950. About seven in
ten were built between 1950 and 1980. La Jolla is still building but it doesn't have much
room left as ravines weave through the terrain.
The children can attend Muirlands Middle School & La Jolla High School or two
private schools, La Jolla Country Day and Bishops. The city offers four large parks, an
underwater park, seal, whale and dolphin-watching, museums, YMCA, the university and all
it offers, La Jolla Playhouse, Concerts in the Park, and the La Jolla Festival of Arts.
Older beautiful sea side resort town. Very well established, prestigious and very
expensive.
