Located in the North County, just east of Camp Pendelton. Many residents are Marines or work at the base. At first glance, Fallbrook comes across as a rural town, tending toward blue collar. But in recent decades, the gentle hills to the east of the community have been attracting custom homes and ranchettes. The region also has many working farms and Fallbrook calls itself "The Avocado Capital of the World."

Fallbrook itself exudes "country. " It has its older buildings, I some dating back to the last century, but mostly it's a modern town of small stores and restaurants. Little airport to the southwest of town, Boys and Girls Club, typical kids sports, Little Theater, Senior Center and a Community Center. The children attend schools in the Fallbrook District.

Other unincorporated neighborhoods in the region include Live Oak Park, San Luis Rey Heights and Bonsall. This is a situation where boundaries are vague and it is hard to know where one place ends and another one starts. Some of these neighborhoods are considered upscale.
