AVERAGE LIST PRICE: 4 BEDROOM $371,500 - 3 BEDROOM $293,000
Pretty coastal city that extends well inland. Rises from the ocean to the hills. Many
homes with views. A state park runs along much of the shoreline; good access to beaches.
Water, water everywhere. Buena Vista Lagoon on the north side, Agua Hedionda Lagoon to the
south. The regional shopping center at the north end of El Camino Real. Many open fields.
Carlsbad is famous for its commercially grown flowers. In the spring, the hills are alive
with brilliant colors from the buttercups and gladiolus and other flowers. It is also
known as Golfers heaven, with about 10 golf courses and several more being planned. It
will soon become home for the Lego Theme Park and the Gemological Institute of
America.
Carlsbad is served by several public school districts. It is best to call the school
district to verify which school your children may attend, as some children attend public
schools in San Marcos and Vista.
Moving east of Interstate 5 and southeast of Carlsbad, La Costa presents itself:
country club subdivision built around two 18 hole golf courses. Some expensive custom
homes that rise high into the sky and look over Batiquitos Lagoon and the Pacific. There
are also nice modest homes and in one section large striking duplexes with fantastic
views.
Neighborhoods are defined by ravines and native shrubs. La Costa Canyon High School,
located in the south of the city, opened in the fall of 1996. It includes a library,
performing arts center and a two-story gym.
Summed up, Carlsbad is middle-class professional, leaning to upscale. Dynamic in the
sense that it makes things happen. Great location near the Pacific and with unusually good
recreational choices.
